Local Networks, can be based at County, District or Group; some may be focused around a specific activity or location, e.g. Gang Show, Activity Centre, climbing or canoeing.
What
do members of the Scout Network do?
There are many different ways to be a member of the
Scout Network. You don't have to stick with one group of members and can
go as much or as little as you like.
Many changes
may take place during your life in the Network, you may go away to University,
College or start a new job, whatever happens, you can still be a member
of the Network to carry out the activities you want to do. If you are
a member you may want to do something else in Scouting such as:
Be a leader in another Scout Section
Be a member of a Scouting Club (Climbing, Walking or Sailing, for
example)
Be a member of the Scout Fellowship
Make your
voice heard:
You will also get the chance to make decisions about what happens in your
Scout Network. Take these opportunities and use them to make sure you
have your say in what activities you carry out and other events.
What
options & awards are available for a Network member?
There are many options that you can take while being
a member of the Scout Network, for example the Nationally recognised Queen
Scout Award, or the Duke of Edinburgh Award. For more information about
this click here.
Scouting at University or College
Is it still possible to continue my Scouting?
Yes! You can easily continue where ever you are. You can remain as a member
of your local Network and join the Network that is where you are studying.
This gives you the opportunity to make new friends and continue with the
activities that you enjoy. People have been know to go away Camping with
their Local Network & with people they met whilst studying away.
Student
Scout & Guide Clubs
In Many Universities & Colleges there are Scout & Guide Clubs.
These offer you the chance to continue with Scouting while away from home.
If there is no club, then you have the offer of joining the Student Scout
& Guide Organisation and find out what activities there are organising
locally.

Changes
to the Network
Since
1st Jan 2007 18 to 25 year olds must opt-in to the Scout Network.
This will have implications for anyone who is completing their awards.
Self Development
Areas
The Scout Network has moved from using the eight Programme Zones to using
three Self Development Areas. This approach is more appropriate to Members
of the Scout Network.
Awards Scheme
The Awards Scheme has not changed except that the Chief Scouts Platinum
Award is now only available to those who started it in the Explorer Section,
but were unable to complete it. However, those joining the Section, and
not working on any Award, may take part in the Chief Scouts Diamond
Award and Queens Scout Award. The Duke of Edinburghs Award
should also be run in parallel with the Awards.
Structure
of the Scout Network
The Scout Network remains an Area Provision. However; there is also the
possibility for Scout Districts to host Networks. The various types of
Scout Network that now operate are:
The definition
of a Scout Network Member has also changed. From January onwards 18 to
25 year olds must opt-in to the Scout Network. This will have
implications for anyone who is completing their Queens Scout Award,
Chief Scouts Diamond Award or the Explorer Belt, as anyone over
18 must be a Member of their Scout Network to complete a Scouting Award.
